    Insurance Review Worksheet

Audit your protection strategy to ensure your family's mission continues even if you're gone.

Section 1 — Life Insurance Inventory

Veterans often have a mix of VGLI, S-DVI, and private policies. Record all of them here to see your total coverage amount.

Section 2 — Other Essential Coverage

Life insurance isn't the only protection you need. Review your LTC, disability, and umbrella policies.

    Section 3 — Beneficiary Audit

Beneficiary designations override your will. If your life insurance still lists an ex-spouse or a deceased relative, that is where the money will go.

    Section 4 — The 14-Year Oversight

Daniel, a Marine veteran, assumed his 'estate was in order' because he had a will. During a review, he looked at his old S-DVI policy he'd kept since separation.

To his horror, he realized his ex-wife, whom he'd divorced 14 years ago, was still the sole primary beneficiary. His current wife of 10 years and their two children would have received nothing from that policy.

'It took five minutes to change it online,' Daniel said, 'but those five minutes saved my family from a disaster I wouldn't have been around to fix. Check your beneficiaries. Do it today.'

    Commander's Field Tips
    • Review your insurance every time you have a major life event (marriage, birth, divorce, home purchase).
    • Ensure your beneficiaries know where the 'Dec Pages' (Declaration Pages) are kept.
    • Compare your VGLI rates to private term life insurance; as you age, VGLI can become significantly more expensive.
